Born in Nova Scotia, Dr. Kisiku Sa'qawei Paq'tism Randolph Bowers is a senior practising Psychotherapist, Counsellor Supervisor, Natural Healer, and Artist. His Ph.D. is in Counselling and Health. He also received an M.Ed. in Counselling, a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, and Certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. He is currently Assistant Professor in Education at Cape Breton University. Dr Bowers was formerly Counselling Programs Coordinator in the Faculty of the Professions, University of New England, New South Wales, Australia where he taught from 1998 to 2009. His work focuses on understanding minority experiences and healing of identity in relation to Aboriginality, race, gender, and ecology of place.
In addition to writing or co-authoring over 140 works, Dr. Bowers is founding editor in chief of the international research journal Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Health, co-author of numerous publications including The Practice of Counselling and How We Manage Sexual & Gender Diversity in the Public Health System, and currently has his own column in the Mi'kmaq-Maliseet Nations News. In a spirit of sharing and giving back to his people, Dr. Bowers has kindly given his permission for some of his work to be available on line.
